Crystal Skulls

If you have seen the movie "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" you would have seen and noticed the whole plot is about aliens from Mars. Their is 13 missing skulls that must be returned for the Earth to stay on it's axis so it wont be destroyed.

Here is a quick paragraph of a brief rundown:

Legend of the 13 Crystal Skulls

Though most archeologists believe that the life-sized crystal skulls

we are familiar with today are 19th century fakes, there is a one

popular myth that connects them with the ancient Mayan culture. The

story goes that in ancient times there were 13 skulls, most of which

are now lost to history. According to the story, they must be found

before December 21, 2012. That day marks the end of the current Mayan

calendar cycle which has lasted 5,126 years. On that date, according

to the legend, the earth will be knocked off its axis, unless the

thirteen skulls are brought together and aligned properly. If that is

done, the paranormal power of the skulls can save the planet.

My question to you is; is there anything that can defeat these statements. Again if you do research you will find hundred's if not thousands of things about this. I am not saying this is true and I believe it, I am just trying to find ways to Defend the Faith in this new subject amongst men & woman. I reach out to people over a program called Ventrilo. It's a voice communication server that allows you to talk to as many people as you want all over the world for free. In my channel we normally have 30 people and can sometimes reach amounts of 2-300 people. This was one of our conversations and I was stummped after trying to use some Dr. Giesler tactic's that I have learned over the years from his teachings. Anyone else able to help or provide some information would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the military, so understand if my replies are delayed. If you could write to my home address at witzjd@hotmail.com or repost on the thread that would be awesome.

Thanks SES Students/Teachers/Alumni/Church,

Re: Crystal Skulls

Justin -

First and foremost - thank you for your service.  I'm honored to have you as a fellow college student.

I spent 9 years 3 months and 16 days in the USAF - I was seriously considering whether I should stay, so in order to make my choice easy, I declined testing for MSgt.  That made me ineligible for reenlistment and the pressure was off!  I spent 6 years in Japan and 3 in Malaysia.  I never did see Vandenberg.  Ok, I'll shut up and give you my thoughts -

I've seen specials on the History (or like) Channel on these skulls.  Ultimately, it is idolatry - putting faith in the created rather than the Creator.  The Bible condemns all of this, but I'd recommend Romans 1 as a defense.  Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.  Romans 1 22, 23 (NKJV)  By assigning power to these skulls, or to planetary alignment, or whatever in the created order, they are acknowledging a higher power of some sort.  As these things are inanimate, in order for them to have power, the power must be external to themselves and they are only conduits for that power (even though I don't believe they are, this is the logic.)  If something else, then, is working through these things then you need to determine what it is.  From there, apologetics comes into play.  Dr. Geisler's 12 step approach demonstrates that God has made himself known through the Bible.  Therefore, whatever is contrary to the Bible (such as this type of idolatry) must be contrary to God.  If you can demonstrate this logically to someone, then you can implore them to consider where they're putting their hope - certainly not in God.

I hope others will step in and tell you their thoughts also.  However, whatever approach you ultimately use, I hope it will be solidly grounded in His Word!

Again, thanks for your service,

Charlie Garret, (Sunny) Sarasota, Florida

I you're really interested in this, you can try to show them that the bible tells us we can't tell the future; or refute them by showing their own contradictions........conflicting information can't be right' or challenge them with the physics......gyroscopes keep spinning with the same axis unless they slow down.   But most likely that won't stop them;...........once you get into "magic power will knock the earth off it's axis" then it's very difficult to disprove such wierd claims.  For example, it's hard to disprove a claim that a magic polar bear will suddenly appear from nowhere and eat the earth.

Or you could try the old safe one about how there's not a year zero, so their math is wrong.  But I think I'd steer them to biblical prophecy, which is more easily proved correct.
